i'll be posting a few more soon; some little studies i've done here and there over the last few months. :)

a future in television?

last week i rented 11 of my paintings to FOX, for an episode of their new show "New Amsterdam." apparently it will air sometime in january, and when i find out exactly when i'll let you know so you can watch. the episode has something to do with some artist from the 19th century, and my paintings dressed the set of his studio; were meant to be his work. who knew all my figure studies from school would actually be rent-able!?

the new season of 30 rock began last thursday and sure enough my drawing is prominently placed in baldwin's character's office. here it is right between him and guest-star jerry seinfeld:







i'm sorry i forgot to give a heads up to watch, but it'll be there in his office all season if you'd like to tune in and see - it's a funny show by the way. and here is a shot of one of the drawings i did last season, just for one episode (on the wall behind tina fey):

in my defense, yes he did look this angry. in his defense, he was reading the SCUM Manifesto for his feminism class. on day 2 he read something a little more tame (although the light kinda changed and i think i killed the underpainting:

the old studio

jane just sent me this pic, taken a while ago by peter (our friend who rents us the new space) during one of our weekly drawing/painting group sessions.

my new favorite painting

jimmy brought this painting, which he has titled "jesus on a jet ski", home from mexico:

he saw tons of these prayer paintings when he was in san miguel de allende, and chose this one out of the bunch. rightly so, it is awesome. the text at the bottom is the man's prayer to jesus that he be spared from getting rabies from the dog that is currently ravaging his shoulder.

apparently when leticia (jimmy's stepmom) purchased it, she talked the guy down from its original price of 300 pesos, (about 30 bucks). i need to get down the mexico soon - i want to start collecting these.

the pensive professor

for our 4 year anniversary, i made this painting for jimmy, of our child:

new studio

i dont know if the picture does it justice - our new studio is soooooo rooomy..

we still need to move all of our stuff, and put in lights etc... but it's going to be so great. yesterday i moved my essential painting supplies over:

i've been in a bit of a dry spell, painting wise. i'm going to blame it on the disgustingness of the NYC summer; this happens to me every year. my studio becomes a sticky sauna and i slow down. but fall is my favorite time of year, and this weekend's lovely weather plus the excitement of a new space has me happily anticipating getting back to work.

for The Bloviator's office

apparently they are redecorating the set of 30 Rock over there at NBC. so they commissioned me to do another drawing; this one will be in alec baldwin's office!!!!

cape cod: painting in the marsh

studies from cape cod

plein air painting is hard. plein air painting at the beach with wind, sand and blazing sun, really hard. to demonstrate. here's a little painting i did of the incoming tide. this picture was taken shortly after i finished it, and right after a big gust of wind blew my jar of turps over, spilling directly over it:

it immediately began to crack and attract sand, and i thought it was ruined. but miraculously when the turpentine dried it was ok, and i was able to dust off some of the sand:

even my tiny bathers were ok (i was very proud of my tiny bathers):

that photo was taken just before another big gust came and threw the painting directly into the sand. here it is now, sand and all (everyone kept telling me to leave it for effect):



despite the sand and the wind, painting on the beach was actually heaven. (how could it not be?) i'll post more pictures of us later, but here's one of me at the beach right by our cottage, on a really foggy day, where gaby and i found a good spot to paint, nestled by the rocks to block the wind...



...we were blatently disregarding the safety precautions being on these rocks. apparently cape cod girls tend to dramatically jump off them alot.. or, be whisked away by their sail-like skirts. or something..
